Meath County Council Library Service continues to provide a welcoming and inclusive space for all members of our community. We are delighted to announce a series of actions across our branches to visibly signal our support of all our LGBTQI+ citizens.
The Operation Rainbow initiative includes a collaboration with Youthwork Ireland Navan branch LGBTQI+ members, together with Kells artist Mark Smith, to create a large piece of artwork reflecting the diversity of our community. When complete, the artwork will travel the county throughout the year and be displayed in all 12 Meath library branches.
Branches will also display the Progress Pride flag, LGBTQI+ badges, emblems, and symbols to signal Meath Libraries’ support of all members of our community.
A Short Story/Poetry & Spoken Word/Art competition will be launched mid-March and invites all aspiring creative talent in the LGBTQI+ community to submit entries in any of the three categories. Closing date will be 19th May. Winners (2 in each category) will be announced during Pride Week in June. Entries can be emailed to dunshlib@meathcoco.ie or left into any Meath library branch marked Operation Rainbow.
Meath Libraries will also support the Pride activities of Navan Pride and of Youthwork Ireland Navan by funding performers to take part in their upcoming Pride events scheduled for June and August.
In collaboration with Outcomers, an LGBTQI+ support group in the North-East, a series of public information evenings will take place in library branches across the county for friends, families, allies, teachers, sports groups, youth groups, and others interested in learning and sharing. These open evenings will provide a safe and supportive space to educate and inform all those engaging and interacting with young people so that a shared understanding can evolve.
We are delighted to collaborate with all LGBTQI+ allies and support groups including Youthwork Ireland Navan branch, Outcomers Dundalk, Navan Pride, Dublin Pride, and the Solstice Arts Centre.
Meath Operation Rainbow is funded and supported by the Government of Ireland and the Dormant Accounts Fund (DAF).
All events will be advertised throughout the year on Meath County Council and Meath Libraries websites and social media pages, and via local news media. Advertising will also be displayed in all Meath library branches and on Meath LGBTQI+ social media platforms.
