Ashbourne and Moynalty were two of the five finalists in the Retail Excellence Ireland’s friendliest place competition, losing at the final step to Ennis in County Clare.
“I want to say a massive congrats to the retailers, residents, organisations and clubs in Moynalty for making it into the top 5 finalists,” Councillor Sarah Reilly said in a Facebook post after the winner was announced.
“I had great fun working with everyone in the village to maximise Moynalty’s vote and it paid off. Moynalty did fantastically well for a small village.”
The AIBMS Retail Excellence Ireland awards began in 1997 to promote best practice and encourage high standards in the Irish retail industry.
This coincided with the The Store of the Year competition which included several local retailers earning their spot in the top 100. Included in this are Adrian Dunne Pharmacy in Ashbourne who was nominated for beauty store of the year and Wilkinsons Jewellers in Navan for gift store of the year.
