A planning application is going ahead for a civic recycling facility in Ashbourne in response to the recent recycling day in Ashbourne retail park late last April. 100 tonnes of materials were recycled at the recycling day planned by Cllr.Joe Bonner where queues of cars and vans bringing bulky materials to be recycled.
These recycling days have been continuing for 17 years across different parts of the country to raise awareness on the lack of recycling facilities in Ashbourne and Ratoath. This has garnered recent popularity due to growing awareness of climate change and environmental issues caused by these changes.
The facility will include a single storey office block, kitchen, truck parking and waiting area.
Cllr. Joe Bonner says he will continue the recycling days until the recycling centre is up and running because
“The provision of a recycling facility for the area is much needed for the growing population of Ratoath and Ashbourne.”
“To this day we have recycled well in excess of 2000 tonnes of bulky household waste.”
Starrus Eco Holdings, trading as Panda/Greenstar have lodged further info to their planning application for a civic amenity recycling centre at Ballybin road, Ashbourne opposite the industrial estate.
