A new skate park is expected to be delivered in Ashbourne by the end of 2022 with the planning process beginning shortly.

A public consultation will be carried out between April andMay with the planning application going on public display in June or July.

It will be an addition to the multi-age play park already available with Ashbourne’s mural wall located in the same area.

“We’ve been looking for it for a long time for the kids and people who skateboard, It’s another amenity for the community,” Cllr. Joe Bonner said.

There is €300,000 available for the project and extra utilities such as parking will be provided to ease the pressure on parking near the playground.

Children from Ashbourne set up a committee a few years ago and handed a petition, signed by 180 people, to local councillors, calling for a skate park in their area.

“I want to thank the young people in Ashbourne that over the years got signatures and lobbied me constantly for this really great project,” Cllr. Alan Tobin said on Facebook discussing the new skate park plans.

This Skate Park was first proposed by Niamh Mc Gowan when she was Chair of Meath County Council.

It will be positioned across from the new Ashbourne Community national school and Deerpark estate.
